Access Statement

Please note, this access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

Introduction
Cove House was built in 1871 and is located in the Dorset village of West Lulworth. We offer four guest rooms; one twin room with en-suite and a further three double bedrooms with en-suite.

While we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features within the house which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.

We are located on the edge of the village, within a 5 minute walk of Lulworth Cove. Durdle Door can be reach both on foot and by car while Weymouth, Swanage and Poole are all within easy reach by car.

At Cove House we have a No Smoking Policy and welcome any children over the age of 12 years.

Car Parking and Arrival
At Cove House we can offer off road parking for 5 cars. Our tarmac driveway is quite steep, but levels out as you enter the property. There is a short walk of less than 10 meters to the front door.  If you require help with your luggage please do ask. We ask all guests to park with consideration for fellow guests.

 

Entering Cove House
Our entrance at Cove House is through an enclosed porch. There are four steps into the entrance door each measuring between 5inchs and 6inches high x 12 inches wide. The door itself is 3ft x 3inch wide and 6ft 6inch high.

There is no handrail for the steps. At night, the outside light illuminates the steps and we also have a light in the porch. Outside and porch lights are on until 1am.

The entrance porch has a Victorian tiled floor, there is room for your muddy boots and shoes. There is a basket with umbrellas for your use during your stay and also a seated window sill should you need it to help you tie your shoes laces.

The entrance porch leads into the hallway via an inward opening door. The door opening is 36” wide and 6’ 6” high.
The hallway is carpeted and is lit with an overhead ceiling light at night times. The hall way is 6’ wide as you enter from the porch with stairs to the first floor. A door immediately on the left as you enter the hallway is the guest breakfast room.

The remaining part of the hallway and doors off it is private and used for our own accommodation.

Our Hambury, Garden and Bindon guest bedrooms are situated on the first floor. The first floor rooms are accessed by a 2’ 6” wide, single flight of 13 steps, each being 7” high and 9” deep, with a hand rail on the left side.

 

Breakfast/Dining Room
As detailed above, the breakfast room is located on the right, immediately as you enter the hallway from the porch. It is carpeted and has natural light from the large front bay window with views over Hambury Tout and the village.
There are four tables that accommodate two guests per table – these can be arranged together for parties wishing to breakfast together if required – please let us know. There is a “buffet sideboard” for cereals, fruit juices etc, (assistance can be given with the buffet on request). Cooked breakfast, toast and hot drinks are served at the table.

Our Bedrooms
From the first floor landing area, both The Hambury and Bindon Rooms are accessed by a single flight of 4 steps, each 7” high and 9” deep and with a hand rail on the left hand side. Each room has carpet flooring.

The Purbeck Room and Lulworth Room are both located on the second floor of the house and are 33 steps from the ground floor.

There is seating, bedside tables, bedside lamps, a wardrobe, plus a chest of drawers/dressing table provided in each room.
Every room has a Flat screen digital TV/DVD.

Our bedding is made up with duvets. Our bedding is not feathered.

 

Our Bathrooms
All rooms have tiled floors and en-suite showers. Each shower has a small step about 3” high as you enter.

 

The Landing
The landing outside of the bedrooms is carpeted and has a free standing fridge where fresh milk and additional supplies of water are kept. You are welcome to use this for your own storage.

 

Outside
The rear garden is not available to guests; We do not have pets, other than goldfish in the garden pond.

Smoking is forbidden at Cove House and is also against the law. If you wish to smoke please do so outside but away from the building so that your smoke does not enter other guest’s rooms. Please dispose of the cigarette butts responsibly.

 

Other Information
The hallway, stairs and landing areas are all illuminated throughout the night.

We can lock up cycles, motor cycles, diving equipment etc. in our garage on request.

Please leave muddy boots and wet clothing in the entrance porch.

We are happy to cater for special diets or any particular dietary requirements you may have. Please advise us of these before your arrival. We are unable to cater for people with nut allergies as we do use nuts in the kitchen.

Mobile phone coverage is limited within Lulworth with only EE, O2 and Orange having some coverage. Other services can be picked up on the surrounding hills. A cordless telephone handset on the house phone line can be made available for guest use on request in cases of urgency. There is also a public telephone across the road from Cove House.

 

In Case of Fire
There are ceiling mounted audible smoke detectors in each room.

In the event of a fire the alarm will sound. Please advise us if you have a hearing impairment and might not hear this. We will do a sweep of the building if the alarm does sound.

The building main fire exit route is down the stairs and straight out of the front door. Once you leave your room please close the door behind you.

Do not re-enter the building until we or the fire brigade tell you it is safe to do so. A copy of the fire instructions are held in the Guest handbook in your room. If you are unable to read them please let us know.
